Mortal Kombat: Red band trailer breaks Logan viewership record

Fans were obviously hungry for the new Mortal Kombat because last week's red band trailer broke viewership records for its uncut snippet.

The Mortal Kombat red band trailer hit 116 million views in its first week which makes it the biggest red band trailer of all-time. The viewership numbers top the 4-day mark for Logan and Deadpool 2.

The trailer also continues to grow and it also trended in 52 total markets on YouTube and 28 total markets on Twitter. This made the trailer register a 98% Positive-to-Neutral social sentiment rating. Fans across Reddit and video gaming news sites also gave the trailer high praise with GameSpot saying "It's loaded with the kind of blood, gore, and crazy superhuman abilities fans of the video game series have come to expect…It's also packed with a bunch of iconic characters from the franchise, giving them each time to shine (and mutilate their opponents)."

The new Mortal Kombat is set to debut in theaters and on HBO MAX on April 16, 2021, and it features a cast of fighters ready to engage in bloody fatalities. The cast includes Mehcad Brooks as Jackson "Jax" Briggs, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Josh Lawson as Kano, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Max Huang as Kung Lao Max, and Lewis Tan as an all-new character, Cole Young. The Mortal Kombat reboot is going to be very different from the 1995 adaptation by going with an R-rating, details that made fans very happy. The film is directed by Simon McQuoid and is produced by James Wan and Todd Garner. This new take seems more in line with what Mortal Kombat fans would expect from a true film adaptation but the 1995 film still does hold a special place in people's hearts more than 25 years after its release.
