The Witcher: Season 2 wraps filming

Netflix's The Witcher Twitter account has posted a photo of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia proclaiming that filming for the second season is all wrapped up. In the photo, we find Cavill barely fitting into his armor and holding a clapperboard. Behind him, you can see a member of the crew all masked up because of safety first and all that.

Cameras started rolling on The Witcher Season 2 back in February 2020, but production was halted soon after due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The delays then prompted the shoot to be rescheduled, which led to Thue Rasmussen (Jonas, Fast & Furious 9) bowing out of the cast. Rasmussen was expected to play Eskel, but was later replaced by Basil Eidenbenz (Denial, The Favourite). Filming fired up again in November 2020 but was shut down a week later after multiple cast and crew tested positive for Covid-19.

During The Witcher's long journey toward the completion of Season 2, several new cast members joined the show. A new face making her way to the high fantasy series is Adjoa Andoh (Bridgerton) as Nenneke, a priestess of Meltiele, and the head of the Temple of Melitele in Ellander. Other cast members joining Season 2 include Cassie Clare (The Bisexual, What Happened to Monday) in the role of Phillippa Eilhart, Liz Carr (The OA, Devs) as Fenn, Graham McTavish (Outlander) as Dijkstra, Kevin Doyle (Downton Abbey) portraying Ba'lian, Simon Callow (The Phantom of the Opera) as Codringher, and Chris Fulton (Bridgerton) in the role of Rience, a dastardly villain.

Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans, and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.

In other Witcher-related news, Irish actor Laurence O’Fuarain has landed the lead role in Netflix's The Witcher: Blood Origin.

The Witcher: Blood Origin takes place 1,200 years before The Witcher, which chronicles the adventures of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill). The new series tells of the creation of the prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal ‘conjunction of the spheres’ when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.

O’Fuarain joins Jodie Turner-Smith in the prequel series based on the novels behind the popular videogame franchise. Turner-Smith plays Éile, an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess, who has left her clan and position as Queen’s guardian to follow her heart as a nomadic musician.

Season 2 of The Witcher has no release date as of yet, though it's expected that a Season 3 announcement is coming soon.
