Awake trailer: Gina Rodriguez endures sleepless nights in thriller

Netflix has unveiled a trailer and key art for its upcoming Mark Raso thriller Awake starring Gina Rodriguez (Annihilation, Jane the Virgin). In the film, a bizarre world event prohibits people from all across the globe from sleeping. Now, some people can go a day, maybe two, before the negative effects of sleep deprivation really kick in, but what happens when the streak lasts longer than that? What do you do when the hallucinations start to creep in, and your life turns into a living nightmare? 

Per Netflix, here's the official synopsis for Awake:

Global hysteria ensues after a mysterious catastrophe wipes out all electronics and takes away humanity's ability to sleep. Scientists race against the clock to find a cure for unexplained insomnia before its fatal effects eliminate the human race. When Jill, a former soldier, discovers her young daughter may be the key to salvation, she must decide: protect her children at all costs or sacrifice everything to save the world.

Awake also stars Ariana Greenblatt (Borderlands, Love and Monsters), Frances Fisher (Titanic, Unforgiven), Shamier Anderson (Stowaway, Goliath), Finn Jones (Iron Fist, Game of Thrones), Lucius Hoyos (Heroes Reborn, Between), Gil Bellows (The Shawshank Redemption, Jett), Barry Pepper (True Grit, The Green Mile), and Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight, Single White Female).

Sleep will become survival when Awake debuts on Netflix on June 9, 2021.
