The heat is back on next summer. Eddie Murphy can currently be seen in the new hit Christmas comedy on Prime Video, Candy Cane Lane. The family-friendly film reunites him with his Boomerang director, Reginald Hudlin. Next year, Murphy will be reuniting with Jerry Bruckheimer, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. While 48 Hrs. landed Murphy in Hollywood as an instant star, 1984’s Beverly Hills Cop catapulted him into the stratosphere as an A-list action-comedy star. After 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop III was not received well by fans, development for a fourth was in the works for a while, and it is now about to hit screens. Netflix has unveiled new plot details and a teaser poster for the new Axel Foley adventure.

The official plot synopsis of this installment reads,
“Detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy.”
The cast list features Eddie Murphy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Taylour Paige, Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot and Kevin Bacon. The sequel is directed by Mark Malloy, who is working from a script by Will Beall and Tom Gormican & Kevin Etten. The story credit goes to Will Beall.

Netflix has also released the new logo for the film. While this entry was previously known as Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, the official title now looks to be Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Axel F is also the name of the iconic theme song by Harold Faltermeyer.

The original movies made their comedic splash by showcasing how a streetwise cop from the city of Detroit sticks out like a sore thumb when he drives his beat-down car into the Hills of Beverly and causes a ruckus. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer tells Tudum, “Detroit is a much different city than Los Angeles and especially Beverly Hills. He still has the same kind of wonderment at the things you see walking down Rodeo Drive.” The film’s director, Mark Malloy, added, “As we were scouting going from Detroit to Beverly Hills, the cultural contrast that made Axel a fish out of water in the eighties still is so vivid.  They might just be the two most opposite places in America.”

Malloy also talks Axel’s daughter, Jane, played by Taylour Paige, “You’re trying to cast Axel Foley’s daughter. That’s a real challenge. I saw that same glint in Taylour’s eye, that infectious spark and energy that Axel has, but also someone who could go toe to toe with Axel, which is a hard thing.”
