Zack Snyder is polarizing with audiences, but the director has never received complaints from people he’s worked with, and they even remain passionately loyal to him. Snyder has been focused on his new space opera for Netflix, Rebel Moon, which will release its first chapter, A Child of Fire, on December 22. Coincidentally, the sci-fi epic is set to release the same day as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will be the concluding movie in the DCEU Snyderverse. The Hollywood Reporter‘s new cover story on Snyder has him reflect on his time at Warner Bros.
The DCEU’s bumpy road was mired by a lot of issues, but several stars in the shared universe have drawn a lot of negative attention in recent years. Three such stars under the microscope of the media — Ezra Miller, Amber Heard and Ray Fisher, worked with Snyder on his grand superhero team-up movie, Justice League. Snyder comments to THR how he keeps in touch with all of them, even during the tumultuous time. The Man of Steel director would praise Miller’s recent infamous solo Flash film, “[They] did a great job in that Flash movie. It’s very difficult to play against yourself.”
Additionally, while Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom had been pushed by fans to remove Amber Heard from the film in the aftermath of her publicly scathing trial with her ex, Johnny Depp, Snyder continues to throw his support behind her. Heard made her debut appearance as Mera in Justice League, where Snyder got to work with her firsthand. Snyder explained, “I just don’t get it. If other people don’t like her, I don’t know what to say. I would work with her in a second.”
Snyder also remains loyal to his actor who portrayed Cyborg in his universe, Ray Fisher. Fisher had been in the news when he accused Joss Whedon of abusive behavior when he took over Justice League and criticized Warner execs for facilitating the behavior. Snyder would bring Fisher over to Rebel Moon for a role and stated, “He’s weathered the storm in a way not many people could or get to do.”
