The Muppets Mayhem has been canceled by Disney+ after one season, bringing the story of The Electric Mayhem Band to an end.

The Muppets Mayhem, canceled, Disney+

As beloved as The Muppets are, they can’t seem to catch a break on Disney+. It was reported today that The Muppets Mayhem has been canceled by the streaming service after one season.

Developed and written by The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg, Bill Barretta, and Jeff Yorkes, The Muppets Mayhem follows “The Electric Mayhem Band — Dr. Teeth on vocals and keyboards, Animal on drums, Floyd Pepper on vocals and bass, Janice on vocals and lead guitar, Zoot on saxophone and Lips on trumpet — on an epic, music-filled journey to record their first-ever studio album. With the help of a driven young music executive, Nora Singh (Lilly Singh), the old-school Muppet band comes face-to-face with the current-day music scene as they try to finally record their first studio album.

Disney+ never revealed the ratings for The Muppets Mayhem, but it’s clear they weren’t quite what the studio had hoped. The last Muppets series on Disney+, Muppets Now, was also canceled after one season.

The creators had expressed interest in crafting a “Muppetverse” that would have grown the franchise in a big way. “Jeff, Bill, and I have very lofty dreams that Disney starts this Muppetverse where it’s just like Marvel or Star Wars, this web of movies and specials and animation,” co-creator Adam F. Goldberg told Gizmodo. “We would love to to help them do that. But if you’re going to do that—they started just with Iron Man, right? So for us, it was like, we’re just doing a show about the band; let’s focus on this one very specific corner of the Muppet Universe. Let’s show Disney and the audience there’s whole backstories here and we just want you to fall in love with this band. Let’s not worry about anybody else. And from there, let’s now kind of branch out and do even more. So that was always our idea. In fact, we were kind of more excited about introducing new Muppet characters. That was always a goal for us.

How do you feel to see The Muppets Mayhem get canceled so soon?
