Fans of the John Wick series didn’t have to wait long after Chapter 4 before they got even more content from the franchise, as Peacock debuted miniseries The Continental this September. But is three episodes really enough? And will Ballerina – with Ana de Armas as Rooney – really give fans their Wick fix when it arrives next June? To truly continue – and conclude? – the saga with Keanu Reeves, they’ll have to make John Wick 5. And with that, Reeves will have to be in it…right?
Responding to a question about the possibility of more installments of John Wick at Deadline’s Contenders Film Los Angeles, director Chad Stahelski said, “You never know…Keanu’s hard to kill.” He added, “But look, I love working with Keanu. We love the character, it’s cool…Honestly, to be fair, if either one of us woke up tomorrow and had a really good in or an idea, we’d be down for it. It’s just, you don’t want to force it. We’re pretty good right now and don’t want to mess it up.”
A John Wick 5 does have some promise, especially considering the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4 didn’t give the audience a definitive answer as to what happened, even if that’s precisely what Keanu Reeves had hoped for. Instead, the filmmakers gave him 90% of his request. Well, that 10% is closer than ever, as the Writers Guild of America’s end in September has allowed John Wick 5 to move forward.
As for Reeves, Stahelski said, “Keanu would do one again in a second if we had a good story.” Considering that the series is one of the best action franchises going right now, we’d think the script for John Wick 5 would be satisfactory. For what it’s worth, the first four John Wick films have an average rating of a 9.25/10 from our own critics. How would you rank the John Wick movies?
Do you think at least one more installment of John Wick is necessary or would it feel like the filmmakers would be pushing it? Give us your take in the comments section below!
