Lionsgate presents, in association with eOne, a Tucker Tooley Entertainment/Mark Canton/Municipal Pictures production, the first trailer for Arthur the King, an inspirational new movie starring Mark Wahlberg based on Mikael Lindnord’s book Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed The Jungle To Find A Home.

Over the course of ten days and 435 miles, an unbreakable bond is forged between pro adventure racer Michael Light (Mark Wahlberg) and a scrappy street dog companion dubbed Arthur,” reads the official synopsis. “Based on an incredible true story, Arthur the King follows Light, desperate for one last chance to win, as he convinces a sponsor to back him and a team of athletes (Simu Liu, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Ali Suliman) for the Adventure Racing World Championship in the Dominican Republic. As the team is pushed to their outer limits of endurance in the race, Arthur redefines what victory, loyalty and friendship truly mean.

In real life, Mikael Lindnord spent six years with Arthur after meeting him during a 2014 championship adventure race in Ecuador. “Arthur became a part of our family right from when he entered our front door to the house,” Lindnord told People. “Arthur´s beautiful soul touched many people and for us in the family he was the best family member you could dream about. He was like a guardian angel to our kids.” Sadly, Arthur passed away in 2020.

Arthur the King was directed by Simon Cellan Jones, who also helmed Mark Wahlberg’s The Family Plan, which is set to be released on AppleTV+ on December 15th. “I’ve now been fortunate enough to work with Mark on two movies,” Jones said. “They were totally different projects and experiences, but they had one thing in common – Mark was a joy to work with on both!” The spy comedy finds Wahlberg playing Dan Morgan, a suburban dad and car salesman whose secret past as an elite government assassin comes back to haunt him when his enemies track him down. Packing his unsuspecting wife, angsty teen daughter, pro-gamer teen son, and adorable 10-month-old baby into their minivan, Dan takes off on an impromptu cross-country road trip to Las Vegas. Determined to protect his family, while also treating them to the vacation of a lifetime, Dan must put his long-dormant skills into action, without revealing his true identity
