Loki executive producer sheds light on Jonathan Majors’ appearance in season 2 amid controversy

The God of Mischief is about to embark on a new multiverse-hopping adventure. Tom Hiddleston returns as the fan-favorite character of Loki in season two of Disney+’s Marvel Studios series, Loki. Season one of the spin-off show introduced Jonathan Majors as He Who Remains, a variant of Kang. While Kang’s further development in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is an attempt to solidify his place as the new Thanos, Majors’ off-screen controversy of abuse claims put Marvel in a tight spot of deciding what to do with the actor.

Variety has recently caught up with Loki season 2 executive producer Kevin Wright, where he spoke about what’s to come in the show. Wright was asked if the March arrest of Jonathan Majors changed the trajectory of his involvement with this season. He responded, “No. This is maybe — not maybe — this is the first Marvel series to never have any additional photography. The story that is on screen is the story we set out to make. We went out there with a very specific idea of what we wanted this to be, and we found a way to tell it in that production period. It’s very much what’s on screen on Disney+.”

Majors’ trial has been postponed for the third time to later this month and while the public waits to see how it turns out, Wright revealed that there wasn’t a discussion about replacing the actor. When asked if it was ever considered to make changes to his character, Wright said, “No. And that mainly came from — I know as much as you do at the moment. It felt hasty to do anything without knowing how all of this plays out.”

The initial schedule of Majors’ trial was set for August. However, at the request of his attorneys, it had been delayed to September and then delayed again to October 25. Majors’ legal team has claimed possession of conclusive evidence in favor of his innocence and stating back in April, “Jonathan Majors is innocent and has not abused anyone…We have provided irrefutable evidence to the District Attorney that the charges are false. We are confident that he will be fully exonerated.” If convicted in his eventual trial, Jonathan Majors could face up to one year in jail.
