The Creator is set to be scored by Hans Zimmer

Now that John Williams is winding down with his prestigious career, one of the prominent blockbuster composers of the last couple of decades is Hans Zimmer. Most may know him from his work with Christopher Nolan, although Nolan has opted to work with Ludwig Göransson in his last two outings. Zimmer’s collaboration with Nolan on Inception even notably ushered in the trend of the “BWAAAM” musical sting that can be found in most trailers to help intensify and punctuate a dramatic turn.

Although Zimmer has had a career spanning many genres, his work is recognized chiefly from his big-budget sci-fi or action movies. Film Music Reporter has recently revealed that the maestro will be contributing his booming tones to the upcoming Gareth Edwards sci-fi film starring John David Washington titled The Creator. The official second trailer was recently posted online by 20th Century Studios and showcases a bleak future in which humans are fighting for survival in a war against machines that are led by the buzzword of the year — A.I.

The official synopsis for The Creator reads:
Amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua (Washington), a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife (Chan), is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war… and mankind itself.  Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines, into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory… only to discover the world-ending weapon he’s been instructed to destroy is an AI in the form of a young child. 

John David Washington (Tenet), Gemma Chan (Eternals), Ken Watanabe (Inception), Sturgill Simpson (Dog), newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles, and Allison Janney (Juno) lead the cast. Gareth Edwards directs from a screenplay he wrote with Chris Weitz, based on a story by Edwards. Edwards produces alongside Kiri Hart, Jim Spencer, and Amon Milchan. Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer, Natalie Lehmann, Nick Meyer, and Zev Foreman executive produce.

While the details of the film obviously take inspiration from previous works, The Creator is an original property in which Gareth Edwards has inexplicably decided to shoot in an ultra-wide scope with an aspect ratio of 2.76:1. It is comparable to the Cinemascope format that Quentin Tarantino used for The Hateful Eight in 2015.
