Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One: What Did You Think?

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to run to the theaters to watch Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. That’s right, the latest installment of Tom Cruise’s action franchise has finally been released and it sounds like the sequel is another fantastic entry in the long-running series. The film is already off to a great start, taking in $7 million in preview screenings.

In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.

In addition to Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One also features Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Rebecca Ferguson as Ila Faust, Hayley Atwell as Grace, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis, Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge, Shea Whigham as Jasper Briggs, Frederick Schmidt as Zola Mitsopolis, and Esai Morales as the movie’s main villain. Pom Klementieff, Rob Delaney, Cary Elwes, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, Charles Parnell, Greg Davis, and Marcin Dorociński also appear.

Our own Chris Bumbray — and resident Tom Cruise super-fan — loved Dead Reckoning. He said it was “somewhat more sombre” than the previous movies and “seems to be building towards something of a climax for [Ethan] Hunt.” If you’re here for action, the movie definitely delivers. “There are some spectacular [action scences] here, including a frantic car chase through Rome that puts a similar one in Fast X to shame,” Bumbray wrote in his review. “The climactic train sequence, which involves Cruise’s motorcycle jump, is one for the ages. It climaxes in a fight on top of a train which seems to be a direct reference to the ending of the first Mission: Impossible, only done practically and on a grander scale. The stuntwork, much of it done by Cruise himself, is jaw-dropping, especially at the very end, which I won’t spoil here.” You can check out the rest of Bumbray’s review right here.
