The Flash’s Sasha Calle considers the film to serve as a jumping-off point for more Supergirl stories

The Flash may be his first solo outing, but the scarlet superhero would still team up with Batman and introduce a new cinematic Supergirl. Sasha Calle plays Kara Zor-El in the alternate timeline where Superman seemingly hadn’t emerged. While The Flash flounders at the box office and James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy continues to pick up pace, many wonder if Calle’s version of Supergirl is one and done since she does not only exist in a different reality story-wise but also universe-wise. The former Young and the Restless actress hopes that The Flash serves as “a runway to a bigger story” for Kara.

Deadline reports on Calle’s hope for the future of Supergirl as she speaks with Entertainment Tonight about her affinity for this new interpretation. In the interview, Calle explains, “I love her so much and I feel her very deeply. I think this movie was a runway to a bigger story for her.” She continues, “I just want to dive deeper into Kara and her feelings into her day to day. I would just love to see her in regular clothes, in human clothes. As a fan, the whole time that I was filming, I kept thinking, ‘What would she wear? What glasses would she wear?’”

Whereas Superman is someone who represents the very best of humans, Supergirl has an interestingly contrasting arc as she heavily resents humans and has not fully processed how she fits in this world. Calle considers this as an angle to explore. She looks in from the outside as just a fan of the character and states how audiences haven’t gotten to see her as her “human, realized self” and “as a fan, that would be something very cool.” Since the script for the sequel to The Flash had already been written, it was stated that both Michael Keaton’s Batman and Calle’s Supergirl would be making appearances. Keaton’s Batman was also set to appear in the canceled Batgirl, so in one way or another, the story for these multiverse characters hasn’t exactly ended.

Since The Flash is one of the remaining films in the original DCEU, it was important for Calle to know that the original superhero of the universe, Man of Steel‘s Henry Cavill, had approved of her performance as the cousin of Kal-El. Calle spoke about her visit with Cavill, “I asked him, ‘Did I make you proud, cuz? Does Superman approve? And he was like, ‘Absolutely. You did a phenomenal job.’ I think, to me, that meant the world, because it’s Henry Cavill, Man of Steel.”
