It was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con last year that there would be a special crossover episode between Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks. Paramount+ has released a new trailer for Strange New Worlds season 2, which teases that Lower Decks crossover.

The Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 trailer includes the first look at Tawny Newsome as Ensign Beckett Mariner and Jack Quaid as Ensign Brad Boimler in live-action. Boimler’s purple hair made the leap to live-action, although not quite as vibrant as his animated counterpart.

Star Trek legend Jonathan Frakes directed the crossover episode and offered a few details while speaking with TrekMovie last month. “Mariner and Boimler just happen to cross over from their animated world into the ship with Anson (Pike), and Rebecca (Number One) and Ethan (Spock) on Strange New Worlds,” Frakes said. “And it is a flat-out comic [episode]. It’s fabulous. It’s a fish out of water. Fortunately, both Quaid and Tawny look like their characters. So it’s so absurd to see them in three dimensions and their interrelations… Boimler is obsessed with Spock, and terrified of Number One. There is so much good stuff. And Mariner comes to save the day. It’s very, very funny. I’m very proud of it. And I can’t wait for people to see it.

Strange New Worlds stars Anson Mount as Christoper Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, Ethan Peck as Spock, Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as La’an Noonien Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas, and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga. The second season also features Carol Kane as Chief Engineer Pelia. I loved the first season of the series so I can’t wait to see what adventures the crew will have in the new season. Paramount has already renewed the series for a third season, so we’ve got plenty more Strange New Worlds to look forward to.

The first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is now available on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD, with the second season set to debut on Paramount+ on June 15th.
