The CW is still deciding if it will renew Superman & Lois, Gotham Knights, and All-American: Homecoming

The CW is going through its catalog of shows amid some decisions in which the new fall schedule would rely heavily on Canadian shows and unscripted television. The network has had a history of hits with superhero properties and drama series geared toward the teen market. Some of their biggest shows came from the Arrowverse, which consisted of Arrow, Superman & Lois, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Batgirl, etc. The CW has since canceled a number of them while others naturally come to an end, but the current slate isn’t necessarily on solid ground despite some being winners.

Deadline is now reporting that programming for the channel is looking at the expense of these shows like Superman & Lois, Gotham Knights, and All-American: Homecoming since they cost a lot of money to produce and the network doesn’t have streaming rights. Brad Schwartz, the President of Entertainment at The CW, describes it as frustrating. “We’re still looking at those analyzing these shows… and looking at our budgets in 2024. We love all those shows, and they all do very well for us in different ways. We will be making decisions on those probably sooner than later,” Schwartz explains.

What’s difficult in this analysis is that Superman & Lois is one of the network’s strongest shows. The superhero series has aired for three seasons since spinning off from Supergirl, which emigrated onto the network from CBS. The show was created by Greg Berlanti and Todd Helbing and is based on the famous DC Comics characters. The series stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the titular characters.

All-American: Homecoming is a spin-off of All-American and has been on for two seasons. The show “follows Simone Hicks leaves behind her boyfriend Jordan in Los Angeles and attends Bringston University, a historically black college in Atlanta, Georgia where she decides to pursue her dreams of being a pro tennis player.”

Gotham Knights, the newest of the bunch, premiered back in March. Natalie Abrams, Chad Fiveash, and James Stoteraux created and developed this series that is based in the Batman universe. “It follows Bruce Wayne’s adopted son Turner Hayes, who is framed of murder by the Gotham City Police Department and Harvey Dent before becoming Gotham’s new protectors.”
