Before they even knew they’d be picked up again at FX, Archer had already begun production for season 14. Chris Parnell confirmed earlier this year that the cast had been recording their voice-overs, although they hadn’t been given an official greenlight. Well, suit up. FX has just announced the premiere dates for their upcoming slate of returning series and according to The Hollywood Reporter, Archer will not only be returning for a fourteenth season, but it will be the last.
The animated spy comedy is set to make its return on August 30 and will be starting its swan song with two episodes starting at 10 p.m., and both will be available the following day on Hulu. The cast, H. Jon Benjamin, Aisha Tyler, Judy Greer, Chris Parnell, Amber Nash, Adam Reed, and Lucky Yates, are set to return. Comedic actress Jessica Walter, who had voiced the character of Malory Archer, tragically passed away in 2021, and the show would pay tribute to her at the end of season 12.
Archer was created by Adam Reed, who also executive produces along with Matt Thompson and Casey Willis at Floyd County Productions, Archer is fully owned by FX parent Disney and produced by FX Productions. With the writers’ strike looming over Hollywood productions, networks and streamers are said to be stocking up on animated content since their scripts are usually written far in advance so that ample time can be dedicated to the animation process.
FX/FXX are filling their summer schedule with their two staple shows, Archer and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It’s Always Sunny will be continuing in its sixteenth season, which will make it the longest-running live-action comedy sitcom of all time. FX has also announced the return of What We Do in the Shadows as season five returns on July 13 at 10 p.m. with two episodes. Also, Justified: City Primeval is set to debut on July 18 with two episodes at 10 p.m. They also announced Reservation Dogs season three to arrive on August 2 exclusively on Hulu.
The other shows on their slate include The Full Monty, where all episodes will premiere on Hulu on June 14, as well as season two of the award-winning series, The Bear, with all ten episodes also launching on Hulu, but on June 22.
