I hope Marvel announces the cast of its Fantastic Four reboot soon because casting rumors are getting out of control. For months, fans and industry insiders have speculated about who could star as members of Marvel’s first family, with several actors denying their involvement with the anticipated project. Mila Kunis recently denied she’s playing a female version of Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, after being spotted at a deli with Matt Shakman, the film’s director.
While some may think a female version of Grimm sounds unlikely, it would not be the first time a female version of The Thing fought alongside the Fab Four. Have you ever heard of Darla Deering? She once dated Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), then joined Ant-Man, Medusa, and She-Hulk as the fourth member of a replacement Fantastic Four. Darla wears Thing Rings, which, when touched together, create the Thing Exoskeleton, a super-suit with outstanding strength and durability.
According to Daniel Richtman, Marvel is in talks with several actors for starring roles in Fantastic Four, including Adam Driver as Reed Richards, Margot Robbie as Sue Storm, Paul Mescal as Johnny Storm, and Antonio Banderas as the villain Galactus. While Richtman has a reputation for being correct about potential castings, Marvel has yet to make any official announcements about who will star in the upcoming film.
WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman is directing Fantastic Four for Marvel Studios from a screenplay by Josh Friedman. Plot details remain a mystery, though if Galactus is involved, the story could feature the FF thwarting the larger-than-life villain’s plans to devour Earth. If the story features Galactus, it stands to reason that Silver Surfer could feature in the film. Galactus often sends a herald to scope out planets before his approach. In the Silver Surfer’s case, the galaxy-cruising hero falls in love with Earth and collaborates with the Fantastic Four to foil Galactus’s plans. Early in Fantastic Four‘s development, Keanu Reeves was rumored to play Silver Surfer, but the John Wick actor has denied joining the MCU for any such role.
What do you think about the recent casting rumors for Marvel’s Fantastic Four? Actors typically deny any involvement with Marvel before the studio makes an official announcement. Meanwhile, we’re all sitting on pins and needles, waiting for confirmation about who will defend the universe from threats like Doctor Doom, Galactus, the Skrulls, Kang the Conqueror, Annihilus, the Mad Thinker, and more!
