Fresh off the CinemaCon roller coaster ride, critics and fans cooled their heels from the annual event with an early screening of Marvel‘s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In the lead-up to the threequel, Marvel said the James Gunn-directed film would be the final ride for the studio’s lovable a-holes, but many believe this end marks a new beginning for the beloved superheroes of the spaceways.
I’m not cool enough to have attended an early screening of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but JoBlo’s Chris Bumbray is, and from what I can gather, he thought the film was outstanding and the best of Marvel’s output since Avengers: Endgame! Suck it, Thanos!
I’ve gathered many of the first reactions to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and have posted them below. Everyone is keeping their opinions spoiler-free, so there’s no need to worry about ruining aspects of what could be one of the greatest Marvel movies in recent history. Observe!
#GuardiansOfTheGalaxy3 is the best Marvel movie since Endgame. It’s refreshing in that outside of the movies the Guardians themselves have been in, it stands alone from any of the Phases and is it’s own thing. Definitely not a definitive end- more like a pause.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is probably the best MCU film since Endgame and a satisfying conclusion to their journey. It has the full range of emotions: from laughs to heart break to victory and so much more. It reminded me of what it used to feel like watching a new MCU film. pic.twitter.com/avgv4oK5yZ

Guardians of the Galaxy 3: Colors! Personality! Stakes! Actually delighted that James Gunn brings something we almost never see in the MCU: finality. The end of a found family against the fabric of Marvel cosmic. I really liked this one. pic.twitter.com/d0C5dXIxDa

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is easily the best MCU film since Endgame. That is how you do a trilogy! I laughed, cheered, sang along, & cried so, so many tears. The stakes were high this time around. What a perfect ending. What a perfect new beginning. #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy3 pic.twitter.com/J86rfFmhBw

That was an emotional journey. This is my favorite #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy movie. Wow. James Gunn really had fun with this. It was funny, violent, crazy, exciting, sad, and just a wonderful goodbye from Gunn. I really loved it. #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy3 pic.twitter.com/rXpPSstQv2

Marvel’s done it again! #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy3 is another triumph from Kevin Feige, with a sprinkling of that James Gunn magic to bring it all together. It’s truly unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Bradley Cooper may be a dark horse this awards season. pic.twitter.com/GEnnEKSD6W

I was not ready for #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy3! What an emotional journey from beginning to end. This is the best #MarvelStudios film since Endgame. What a beautiful ride and the perfect book end for @JamesGunn’s MCU journey. pic.twitter.com/fFolVAc8aa

#GotGVol3 is loud, bold and emotional. Lots of exciting fighting sequences and fun aliens & creatures . It’s a perfect ending of the trilogy. I had doubts about Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock before but he turns out to be likable. Hope to see more of him. #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy3 pic.twitter.com/Nm3et5NfAL

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is solid! It’s more dark and weird than cool and cosmic. It’s intimate and emotional and isn’t what I’d expect from a concluding chapter of the trilogy. Big, powerful moments for each character. Not for younger audiences! pic.twitter.com/BmvBtjURIu

#GotGVol3 is a FANTASTIC send off to one of the best trilogies in the MCU!!

The Rocket-centric story absolutely hits every target in your heart.
The themes of family and friendship seep out of every pore amidst the insanity here.
It’s the James Gunnsiest of #JamesGunn movies! pic.twitter.com/33oZ76C0kQ
#GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol3 just destroyed me. Everything I hoped for and then some.

The first film became my favorite MCU movie back in 2014, and now this one locks it in as my favorite series within the franchise.

The Guardians of the Galaxy sequel finds Peter Quill still reeling from the loss of Gamora. Still, he must rally his team around him to defend the universe and protect one of their own for a mission that, if not completed successfully, could likely lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them. The Guardians of the Galaxy 3 trailer gives us more of what we loved in the first two movies, but James Gunn has teased that it’s “a much bigger movie than the other two movies, and it’s a much more emotional movie than the other two movies. And it’s a longer movie than the other two movies — it’s bigger in every way.” Although I’m unsure exactly how to feel about Swole Groot, I’m sure Baby Rocket will break some damn hearts.
James Gunn directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 from a script he wrote with Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. Chris Pratt Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rosenbaum, and Maria Bakalova star.
