Transformers: Rise of the Beasts: Newest trailer shows an all-out war as Unicron descends upon Earth

The follow-up to the prequel/spin-off Bumblebee sees the popular characters from the shows adapted into live-action.

The saga of the robots in disguise continues as Paramount drops the newest trailer for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. There’s certainly more than meets the eye with this installment as it sees the introduction of the popular Unicron villain from the original cartoon. Unicron was also featured in the 1986 movie, Transformers: The Motion Picture. Fans of the series Beast Wars, which aired on TV around the time frame that serves as the setting of this film, and featured animal incarnations of the Autobots and Decepticons, will be excited to see more peeks at the Maximals as an all-out war features a number of characters from the Autobots and Maximals fight side-by-side.

The official synopsis from Paramount reads,
“Returning to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new faction of Transformers – the Maximals – to join them as allies in the existing battle for earth. Directed by Steven Caple Jr. and starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, the film arrives in theatres June 9, 2023.”

This installment features an all-new cast including Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, Luna Lauren Velez, Dean Scott Vazquez, Tobe Nwigwe, Peter Cullen, Ron Perlman, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, Liza Koshy, John DiMaggio, David Sobolov, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Pete Davidson, Colman Domingo, Cristo Fernández, and Tongayi Chirisa.

Michael Bay remains attached as a producer. But he’s also joined by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy, Mark Vahradian, and Duncan Henderson. Steven Spielberg also returns to executive produce with Brian Goldner, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Brian Oliver, Bradley J. Fischer, and Valerii An.

The screenplay was penned by scribes Joby Harold and Darnell Metayer & Josh Peters and Erich Hoeber & Jon Hoeber from a story by Harold. And Creed II‘s Steven Caple Jr. takes over the directing duties after the previous entry, Bumblebee, was helmed by Travis Knight.

Bumblebee was a more subdued spin-off and prequel of the original Michael Bay films. This entry looks to be going back to the grand-scale conflict that the Bay films would chaotically display. Although, it lends itself to somewhat confusing continuity as the original film would take place just a decade after this one is set. Which kind of deflates the stakes of this “world-ending” event.

Regardless, it’s about the machine mayhem, and the war will hit theaters on June 9.
