Disney is reaching for the stars today with a trailer and art for the coming-of-age sci-fi adventure Crater. Available now on Disney+, Crater tells the story of five unlikely friends exploring parts unknown to fulfill the wish of the dearly departed. Kyle Patrick Alvarez directs from a script by John Griffin. The Crater trailer depicts a thought-provoking odyssey with heart, mystery, and action for audiences of all ages.
Crater stars Isaiah Russell-Bailey, Mckenna Grace, Billy Barratt, Orson Hong, Thomas Boyce, and Scott Mescudi. A 21 Laps production, Crater is produced by Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Dan Cohen. Emily Morris, John G. Scotti, Rpin Suwannath, Gordon Gray, Paris Latsis, and Terry Dougas executive produce.
“Crater is the story of Caleb Channing (Russell-Bailey), who was raised on a lunar mining colony and is about to be permanently relocated to an idyllic faraway planet following the death of his father (Mescudi),” reads the film’s official description. “But before leaving, to fulfill his dad’s last wish, he and his three best friends, Dylan (Barratt), Borney (Hong) and Marcus (Boyce), and a new arrival from Earth, Addison (Grace), hijack a rover for one final adventure on a journey to explore a mysterious crater.”
Disney’s Crater trailer presents a vivid look at Alvarez’s new film. The footage gives me “young-reader” vibes with a touch of Stranger Things camaraderie among the kids. Carrying out the wishes of a parent who passed away can take an emotional toll, and having friends along for the emotional journey can do wonders. With the vast space laid out before them and a mysterious crater to discover, Caleb and his friends set out for the ultimate road trip in a harsh and enigmatic environment.
In addition to the Crater trailer, Disney launched a poster and images from the upcoming film. You can check them out below.
What do you think about Disney’s Crater trailer? Have you ever wished you could travel to space? Would you be brave enough to walk a foreign planet’s surface? I can’t imagine how humbling a mission like that would feel.
Crater touches down on Disney+ today, April 12, 2023.
