Child actor Brooklynn Prince caught a lot of attention and racked up the award nominations – and took home some of those awards (including a Critics Choice Award win that came along with an acceptance speech that went viral) – for her performance in her second film, The Florida Project, back in 2017. She has earned several more screen credits in the years since, and can be seen in the recent release Cocaine Bear (read our review HERE). And now, at just 12 years old, Prince says her “nerd dreams” have come true, as Sumerian Comics, a major publisher of comic books and graphic novels, has picked up her comic book pitch Misfortune’s Eyes!
Written by Prince and Aliz Fernandez, Misfortune’s Eyes will be unveiled at Mega Con in Orlando, Florida next week. Prince will also be speaking on a panel at the convention.
Prince, who is described as being “comic books obsessive”, told The Hollywood Reporter that Misfortune’s Eyes tells the story of Vivian Nightingale, a girl who wakes up on the morning of her 15th birthday and discovers that she can see human auras. After embarking on a journey to find out what her future holds, she happens upon Hemlock Hallows — a hidden Psychic Town — where she learns about her mother’s troubled past and her own curse of predicting death, and unearths an immense darkness coming for the town and her own family.
That sounds interesting to me, and it’s pretty cool to see a child actor writing and creating comic books on the side.
The Hollywood Reporter also shared a look at the cover of Misfortune’s Eyes, and you can take a look at that at the bottom of this article.
In addition to The Florida Project and Cocaine Bear, Prince’s credits include Robo-Dog: Airborne, Monsters at Large, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, The Angry Birds Movie 2, The Turning, The One and Only Ivan, Settlers, and the Apple TV+ series Home Before Dark.
