One of the best noir comic book series of the past several years, The Good Asian, is being adapted for the small screen! According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, MRC, James Wan‘s Atomic Monster, and 3 Arts will develop the project based on the thrilling and hard-hitting detective story written by Pornsak Pichetshote (Infidel), with art by Alexandre Tefenkgi (Outpost Zero). James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett produce for Atomic Monster, with Will Rowbotham and Luke Maxwell for 3 Arts.
Here’s the official solicitation for The Good Asian via ImageComics.com:
Writer PORNSAK PICHETSHOTE’s long-awaited follow-up to the critically acclaimed INFIDEL with stunning art by ALEXANDRE TEFENKGI (OUTPOST ZERO)! Following Edison Hark—a haunted, self-loathing Chinese-American detective—on the trail of a killer in 1936 Chinatown, THE GOOD ASIAN is a Chinatown noir starring the first generation of Americans to come of age under an immigration ban, the Chinese, as they’re besieged by rampant murders, abusive police, and a world that seemingly never changes.
The Good Asian is a hard-boiled mystery that gets under your skin and leaves you feeling dirty. It’s a story of corruption, loyalty, and betrayal. The Good Asian digs to the core of its sensitive themes and then chips away at the complicated center. I’ve followed Edison’s odyssey since the first issue hit stands on May 5, 2021, and have enjoyed the ten-issue ride from beginning to end.
Pitchetshote’s previous graphic novel, Infidel, sold to TriStar last year with Sugar23 producing. Created by Pornsak Pichetshote, former editor of DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, and illustrated by Aaron Campbell, Infidel is a terrifying haunted house story that follows an American Muslim woman, Aisha, and her multiracial neighbors who move into a building plagued by entities that feed off xenophobia.
In addition to his comic work, Pitchetshote was a part of the writing team for DC’s upcoming Green Lantern series for HBO Max. Pitchetshote excels at bringing minority voices to the forefront with fascinating characters, chilling dialogue, and poignant observations about the world we live in, and what’s wrong with it.
Count me in for The Good Asian becoming a limited series. I can’t think of a better noir to bring to the masses and look forward to seeing Edison wrestle with both sides of the criminal underworld.
