Ryan Reynolds is set to star in and produce Boy Band comedy, with frequent collaborator Shawn Levy being eyed to direct.

Ryan Reynolds, Boy Band

Ryan Reynolds is ready to rock his body as THR has reported that the actor is set to star in Boy Band, a comedy which he will also co-write with Jesse Andrews (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl).

The plot details are largely being kept under wraps, but it’s being described as a boy band reunion movie. It’s not certain what role Ryan Reynolds would take on in Boy Band, but the actor recently showed off his musical chops in Spirited, Apple’s modern retelling of A Christmas Carol, which also starred Will Ferrell. Reynolds will also produce through his Maximum Effort banner and hopes to start shooting the movie in fall 2023 or early 2024. Reynolds’ frequent collaborator Shawn Levy will produce the project through his 21 Laps Entertainment, but THR says that he’s also considering directing as well. That will all depend on scheduling, as Levy has quite a number of projects on his slate, including Deadpool 3 with Reynolds.

Speaking of Deadpool 3, the long-awaited sequel is gearing up to start shooting in London this spring. Director Shawn Levy has teased that the sequel will continue the R-rated, hardcore violence of the first two movies. “We are writing, rewriting, developing, prepping Deadpool every day now,” Levy said. “It is such a blast to laugh every day. It is so delicious to hear and write and come up with these scenes where people are just talking foul. And the violence is in your face and hardcore, and it’s very much a Deadpool movie. And it has Logan in it. And it has Wolverine in it. It’s too fun. I’m having so much fun, and I haven’t even hit the shooting floor yet. […] I have to say, developing a Deadpool movie is one of the most fun creative experiences of my life because it’s not just that it’s rated R. It’s that it’s so filled with self-awareness, and that makes in-writing very, very fun in a way that is unique to that franchise.” The film will feature the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, despite the actor hanging up his claws following the release of Logan. It was also revealed last week that Emma Corrin (The Crown) had signed up for Deadpool 3, reportedly as the villain.

Oh my God, I’m thrilled,” Ryan Reynolds said of reuniting with Hugh Jackman. “It’s like old home week. To get to be on set with one of my closest friends each and every day is a dream come true. But to do it with these two iconic characters side by side, that’s beyond our wildest dreams.Deadpool 3, or The Wolverine Show featuring Deadpool, is set to hit theaters on November 8, 2024.
