Amy Jo Johnson explains her Power Rangers reunion absence

The upcoming Power Rangers reunion, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, will arrive this spring, but not every cast member from your childhood will appear. With the reunion, just a few months from its Netflix debut, Amy Jo Johnson, the Pink Ranger, aka Kimberly Hart, has explained why she will be absent.

On why she’ll be sitting out the much-anticipated Power Rangers reunion, Johnson tweeted, “For the record I never said no…I just didn’t say yes to what was offered. But other fun stuff is in-store! Looking forward to watching my friends kick ass!”

Unfortunately, Johnson is one of several cast members who won’t be kicking ass in the reunion. Original Red Ranger (aka Jason Lee Scott) Austin St. John will be sitting this one out, as he was arrested in 2022 for allegedly defrauding the government out of $400,000 under the CARES Act.

Still, Power Rangers fans will get some key players in the reunion, with David Yost (aka the Blue Ranger) and Walter E. Jones (aka the Black Ranger) partaking. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Yost said, “[Jones and I] went through the audition process together and launched the Power Rangers franchise…It was such a surreal experience to be on the set of Power Rangers again after 28 years.” Jones added, “Our Ranger family runs deep.”

There is no word on if or how the Power Rangers reunion will pay tribute to Green/White Ranger portrayer Jason David Frank, who committed suicide late last year.

It was announced in 2021 that a new Power Rangers “cinematic universe” would be featured on Netflix. At the time, Jonathan Entwistle, spearheading the next step of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers universe, said, “This is an unbelievable opportunity to deliver new Power Rangers to both new and existing generations of awaiting and adoring fans. We’ll bring the spirit of analog into the future, harnessing the action and storytelling that made this brand a success.”
