50 Cent putting an 8 Mile TV show “in motion”

Rapper 50 Cent is gonna get rich or die tryin’…by adapting the movie 8 Mile for television. 

50 Cent revealed his plans during an interview on Big Boy TV, confirming, “I’m gonna bring his 8 Mile to television. We’re in motion.” 50 Cent didn’t elaborate on any plot details, but reports suggest that his 8 Mile spin will be a prequel, allowing for a look at the early days of Jimmy, aka Rabbit, when he was just a kitten.

50 Cent cemented his idea by saying, “I think it should be there for [Eminem’s] legacy because it’s important to me that they understand it.”

50 Cent also boasted his own filmography, saying, “It’s gonna be big. I ain’t got no duds. I’m battin’ a hundred, I’m battin’ a hundred.” While that seems to be a bit of a stretch–he is most certainly not batting a hundred (.500 maybe…)–50 Cent has proven to be a fairly prolific movie star, appearing in the Escape Plan movies, Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw and the horror movie Skill House, “a dark satire of social media and influencer culture, exploring how far people will go for online fame.” 50 Cent also starred in 2005’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’, which actually took much influence, structurally, from 8 Mile.

8 Mile was released in 2002 to a rather surprising amount of acclaim, with groups like the Chicago Film Critics Association nominating Eminem for Most Promising Performer and the Online Film Critics Society nominating him for Best Breakthrough Performance. Most notably, Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song, becoming the first rap song to do so.

One guarantee for 50 Cent’s 8 Mile adaptation is that director Curtis Hanson won’t be attached. Unfortunately, Hanson passed away in 2016 at the age of 71.

50 Cent and Eminem previously teamed up for the Super Bowl LVI halftime show alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, and more.
