Nicolas Cage would do a Star Trek movie, snubs Star Wars

Nicolas Cage is one of the most prolific actors out there, but there’s one movie franchise he wants nothing to do with. Nicolas Cage recently said he would rather step aboard the Starship Enterprise than journey to a galaxy far, far away, with an interest in the Star Trek series.

In a video interview, Nicolas Cage was asked if he had any interest in being part of the Star Wars franchise–which he quickly rebuked to champion Star Trek. “No is the answer. I’m not really down. I’m a Trekkie, man. I’m (into) Star Trek. I’m on the Enterprise. That’s where I roll…I’m not in the Star Wars family. I’m in the Star Trek family.” You can watch the interview snippet below:

Nicolas Cage elaborated on his penchant for Star Trek. “I grew up watching [William] Shatner. I thought [Chris] Pine was terrific in the movies. I think the movies are outstanding. I like the political, and the sociological… to me, what science fiction is really all about, and why it’s such an important genre, is that is really where you can say whatever you want, however you feel. You put it on a different planet, you put it in a different time, or in the future, and you can without people just jumping on you. You can really express your thoughts… and Star Trek really embraced that. I thought they got into some serious stuff.”

Other than Star Trek, Nicolas Cage has been tied closely to other major franchises. In 2018, he leant his voice to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, playing Spider-Man Noir and voiced Superman in Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. Of course, he infamously almost played Superman in Tim Burton’s doomed Superman Lives.

As far as other major franchise characters Nicolas Cage has played, there’s also Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider, Count Dracula in the upcoming horror-comedy Renfield and, well, Nicolas Cage in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. What? Cage is a franchise of his own design!

What do you think? Would you rather see Nicolas Cage in a Star Trek or Star Wars movie? What sort of character would he be best at playing? Let us know below!
