Wolverine deepfake video casts Henry Cavill as the Canadian claw-popping superhero

The new Wolverine deepfake video is freaking me out, man. We’ve seen uncanny deepfakes with people taking on the guise of Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves, but the latest video from stryder HD is pushing the limits of my ability to sort fact from fiction. In the new Wolverine deepfake video, Henry Cavill replaces Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. They look eerily similar to one another, even when displayed side-by-side. 

In the video, Cavill replaces Hugh Jackman’s Logan in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In the scene, Cavill’s Logan exchanges heated words with Danny Huston as William Stryker. It’s almost impossible to see where Jackman ends, and Cavill begins. It’s terrifyingly cool, in a “we’re heading toward the downfall of society where people can deepfake anything” sort of way.

Unfortunately, this might be the only time we see Cavill playing a superhero for quite some time. After a spot of confusion, it’s been confirmed Cavill is not returning to play Superman in future DCU projects. Cavill announced his return shortly after DC’s Black Adam arrived in theaters. The film starring Dwayne Johnson as the titular anti-hero included an after-credits sequence in which Superman and Black Adam meet for the first time. The setup hinted at a clash of titans yet to come, though with Cavill exiting the DCU and Black Adam 2 looking unlikely, I doubt we’ll see a continuation of their man-stares anytime soon, if ever.

While Cavill is not taking on the role of Wolverine for Marvel Studios, he is joining the production of Warhammer 40,000 for Amazon Studios. Cavill will star in, and executive produce the series, which is in final talks to close a deal between Amazon and Games Workshop. As I know little about the game, I’m going to turn to Wikipedia for help. “Warhammer 40,000 is set in the distant future, where a stagnant human civilization is beset by hostile aliens and supernatural creatures,” reads the description. “The models in the game are a mixture of humans, aliens, and supernatural monsters, wielding futuristic weaponry and supernatural powers.” The game’s first edition was released in 1987 and has grown to include multiple expansions, novels, video games, and more.
