Who doesn’t love a heart-warming pet story? Rob Lowe stars as the dad in the father-son story of their search for their lost dog, Gonker. The trailer for the Netflix film finds its way online and features a journey through the wilderness as they encounter various colorful characters like tough bikers, news reporters interested in their story, and new-age hippies. Usually, films like these showcase the viewpoint from the dog’s perspective as the canine usually encounters a number of obstacles through their adventure in unknown territory, much like 90s family films, Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, and Milo & Otis.

The plot synopsis from Netflix reads, After a young man and his beloved dog are separated on the Appalachian Trail, he and his father must begin a desperate search to find him before it’s too late. Based on an incredible true story of humanity and everyday heroism.Based on the book Dog Gone: A Lost Pet’s Extraordinary Journey and the Family Who Brought Him Home by Pauls Toutonghi.

The cast of this inspirational film includes the likes of Lowe, Johnny Berchtold, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, and Nick Peine. Rob Lowe will also serve as executive producer and joins the movie’s producers, Nick Santora, Jeremy Kipp Walker. The movie is directed by Stephen Herek, who has helmed such classic films as Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead.

Dog Gone is slated to stream on Netflix on January 13, 2023.
