Warwick Davis says Bowie stuffed several socks down his pants for Labyrinth

Labyrinth

You remind me of the babe. What babe? The babe with several socks stuffed down the front of his pants. The most compelling aspect of 1986’s Labyrinth isn’t the Jim Henson puppets or the fantastical world Jennifer Connelly wanders through, but rather the rather distracting, uh, package in David Bowie’s drawers.

While promoting his latest venture, the upcoming Disney+ series Willow–a continuation of the beloved 1988 film–Warwick Davis discussed the most crucial aspect of working on Labyrinth. And yes, it involves Jareth, the Goblin King. “Those tights were a bit too tight, weren’t they?…He was very, very down to earth on the set, by the way. Wanted to go by Dave, despite this huge wig and seven pairs of socks down his tights.” Yeah, seems pretty down to earth. Davis is credited as one of the Goblin Corps.

Warwick Davis also spoke of any potential sequel. Another additional question raised during the interview, by Davis himself, was, “Has a Labyrinth TV series been mooted anywhere?…They did Dark Crystal, but I haven’t heard any talk about Labyrinth.” The latest news put Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson in talks to helm the project. Unfortunately, David Bowie passed away in 2016, it’s unlikely Jareth–or his massive bulge–would return, unless of course the next installment would be a prequel.

Davis also famously played Ewok Wicket W. Warrick in a number of Star Wars properties, the titular Leprechaun in the horror series and Professor Filius Flitcwick in the Harry Potter franchise.

Davis previously reprised the Wicket W. Warrick character for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. His return as Willow Ufgood for Willow will bring the character back for the first time since 1988. On the project, Davis said, “His life hasn’t panned out the way he expected…He’s still stressed out, still worries. He has the weight of this quest on his shoulders. He didn’t want to do this. He wants to be back with the villagers in the village.”

Willow arrives on Disney+ on November 30th.
