Gremlins vs. Critters – Face-Off

Last Updated on November 21, 2022

If there is one thing that the ‘80s taught us, it was to keep an eye out for small carnivorous creatures. Whether it was the Ghoulies, the Munchies (bonus points to those that remember them), or even Hobgoblins which you might have caught on Mystery Science Theater 3000. These little buggers had no problem taking a bite out of anyone that was unlucky enough to cross paths with them. However, the two biggest monsters of the bunch that ruled the decade with their unending appetite had to be Gremlins and Critters.

The Gremlins start off as cute little Mogwais. But as soon as you get them wet, they multiply. Then if they eat after midnight, they mutate into horrible green Gremlins. Before you know it, they will take over your town while wreaking as much havoc as possible. If you’re more worried about vicious fuzzballs from outer space, then Critters has you covered. These deadly little guys are like rolling piranhas. They will devour anything and everything that gets in their way without a second thought. Critters like to have a good time, but there’d better be an open buffet. Let’s see how they stack up when we pit them against each other here on… FACE-OFF!

This episode of Face-Off is written by Bryan Wolford, narrated by Shawn Knippelberg, and edited by Ric Solomon. But don’t let us have the final word — tell us in the comments which carnivorous creature is your favorite! Gremlins or Critters?

The Gremlins made their screen debut in the 1984 classic appropriately titled Gremlins, then returned in 1990’s Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Their franchise has been dormant for a while, but they will be getting an animated series called Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai on HBO Max soon. The Critters, who you may also know as Krites, were first introduced in the 1986 classic Critters and have returned for Critters 2: The Main Course (1988), Critters 3 (1991), Critters 4 (1992), Critters: A New Binge (2019), and Critters Attack! (2019).
