Smile Interview: Parker Finn (writer/director)

I was lucky enough to be able to sit down with the writer/director of Smile, Parker Finn, and ask him all about his film’s massive success. Because there are few films that have come along and taken the horror world by storm like Smile has, remaining a box office contender well after its opening, in an era where films simply die off. I also grilled him about whether or not we’d be getting a sequel.

Smile synopsis: After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can’t explain. Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.

The film stars Sosie Bacon (Charlie Says), Caitlin Stasey (Neighbours), Kal Penn (the Harold & Kumar movies), Kyle Gallner (Red State), Jessie T. Usher (The Boys), Rob Morgan (Mudbound), Judy Reyes (Scrubs), and Gillian Zinser (90210).

I agree with JimmyO’s review (check that out here) and would say that it’s a film any horror fan should make sure to check out. Not only is it well shot and acted, the film also presents us with a new horror villain that could really have some legs. And that may just be the most intriguing aspect.

Smile has been on a phenomenal box office run but is available to buy on Digital now and is streaming on Paramount+.
