It’s Thanksgiving time, and one of the most beloved Thanksgiving movies comes from none other than 80s comedy maestro John Hughes, with the turkey holiday classic, Planes, Trains & Automobiles. The buddy comedy is a classic tale of a journey to be home in time for Thanksgiving dinner, but with travel being so tumultuous around this time, our star, Steve Martin, finds himself stalled and dragging along an unwelcomed companion with John Candy in one of his most famous roles.
Entertainment Weekly reports on the newest remastered release of Planes, Trains & Automobiles in glorious ultra HD 4K quality. One of the coolest, exclusive features for this release is the unveiling of never-before-seen deleted scenes revealing extended performances from the comedy duo. Deleted scenes aren’t anything new for classic releases. However, this set features an entire hour of deleted and extended scenes that were uncovered from John Hughes’ estate from his own personal archives.
Entertainment Weekly has provided an exclusive clip of one of the deleted scenes that sees Martin’s Neal character trying to do some much-needed work while Candy’s Del Griffith starts in on him with his many anecdotes and observations. The dynamic looks to be at the start of their unlikely friendship as Neal tries to remain cordial, and Del asks him to be truthful with him and call him out for being “a blabbermouth.” In true comic fashion, Neal obliges, and Del takes it personally, prompting Neal to point out that it was caused by Del’s own insistence.

The bonus features per Entertainment Weekly include “bonus scenes, which offer a unique and fresh glimpse at Hughes’ filmmaking and editing process, as well as even more laughs from the duo of Martin and Candy. The disc also includes Dylan Baker’s audition for the character of Owen and other legacy bonus content.”
The 4K remaster of Planes, Trains & Automobiles is set for release on November 22.
