As soon as Halloween ended, so began the big holiday season. The end of the year sees an uptick in retailer marketing, with both Thanksgiving and Christmas being a consumer marathon of purchases and shopping. Businesses all over start making adjustments and offering deals which means some new interesting ads are forthcoming.
Variety reports that retailer juggernaut, Walmart, plans on releasing a new marketing blitz for Black Friday, which will be reuniting the cast of Office Space for a series of commercial sketches that play on one of the movie’s popular jokes of people having “a case of the Mondays.” Walmart has been angling to extend Black Friday deals which usually take place the day after Thanksgiving. However, the “case of the Mondays” ads headline sales and bargains that will show up online at the start of the week.

Walmart’s Vice President of Brand and Marketing Strategy, Casey Casey Schlaybaugh, comments, “We know customers want to shop for deals earlier, and they want to shop for deals often.” The new marketing ads will be released every Monday in November as an episode in a series appearing on television and in movie theaters. The ads will see the return of Bill Lumbergh, played by Gary Cole, and Samir Nagheenanajar, played by Ajay Naidu, still working at Initech in the same positions they worked in the film.
When Office Space premiered in 1999, brought to us by Mike Judge, it was actually a flop, despite co-starring one of the biggest TV celebrities of the time, Jennifer Aniston. It wasn’t until the movie was on home video that it found a fanbase. Naidu would explain that the movie “wasn’t as well-received as it needed to be.” He adds that it was “the advent of the DVD and the new ways of watching things. It spoke so deeply to a generation and what they did and didn’t have to look forward to when they went to work.”
