Major spoilers for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Consider yourself warned. The season finale of She-Hulk recently debuted and included a number of surprises for fans… some they were expecting, and others they were… not. It also wouldn’t be a Marvel production without a cameo to get people talking, and the one found in She-Hulk could have a major impact on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe… or not.
If you’re still with us, you’ll know that the finale of She-Hulk finds Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) celebrating her win with her family (and Matt Murdock). Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) also shows up with a surprise guest — Skaar, his son from the planet Sakaar, who is sporting a questionable haircut. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law head-writer Jessica Gao revealed how the cameo came to be.
“Initially when we first started talking about how the season would end, we were like, ‘It’d be fun if we did a big cameo at the very, very end, the last scene, the last moment, a big cameo from the MCU. That’d be really cool,’” Jessica Gao said. “But then we realized that’s so dependent on who’s willing to do it, what their availability is, and there’s just no way at the scripting stage that we would be able to get any sort of guarantees on who would be able to do it. It’s so dependent on that that you can’t really commit to a person in the script. So then we thought it would be really cool if we could tease a new character at the end, either as the last moment of the last scene or even as a post-credits tag.” Gao added that the writers went through a lot of comics to figure out who they could use before they realized that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was really the one they should be talking to. It turns out that Feige was the one who decided that the She-Hulk cameo should be Skaar. What ramifications might Hulk’s son have on the MCU? I suppose time will tell.
