She-Hulk: Director Kat Coiro says that the finale twist came courtesy of Kevin Feige

Spoiler Alert! By now, you likely have seen the season finale of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law which took the latest Disney+ MCU series in a crazy direction. If not, I highly recommend that you don’t read much further in this article as we will be talking openly about what happened.

In the final episode of She-Hulk, which opened with a retro remake of the classic Bill Bixby Incredible Hulk show opening sequence, Jen Walters (Tatiana Maslany) was left reeling after HulkKing and Intelligensia slut-shamed her at an awards show. After smashing the reception, Damage Control incarcerated her which led to an inhibitor being installed and Jen losing her job. Heading up to Emil Blonsky’s retreat, Jen learned that Todd Phelps (Jon Bass) was the villain behind it all and he employed Blonsky (Tim Roth) as a motivational speaker. As Titania (Jameela Jamil) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) arrive to battle in MCU fashion, Jen breaks the fourth wall and exits via the Disney+ menu and enters an Assembled documentary to confront the She-Hulk writer’s room. It is there she learns of K.E.V.I.N. (Knowledge Enhanced Visual Interconnectivity Nexus), the Artificial Intelligence that controls Marvel Studios. Clearly modeled after Kevin Feige, this sets up a meeting where Jen changes the ending of the season for the better.

A risky, meta-move by the series, but one that was completely unexpected. I recently chatted with director Kat Coiro about this twist which she said was kind of Kevin Feige’s idea. Coiro revealed that the final sequence was actually the first scene shot for the show before they really knew the tone and style they were going for. She also said that Kevin Feige was all in on the K.E.V.I.N. twist, even the little hat the robot wears, but he didn’t want it to look too much like him. Coiro said it is impressive how involved Feige is will every Marvel Studios production and that he was willing to poke fun at himself.

Coiro also said that the trolls complaining about the CGI, the wait for Daredevil’s cameo, and more were strong when the series debuted but dried up towards the end.
