By this time next week, Marvel’s first Halloween Special will be upon us. Werewolf By Night may seem like a one-off, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige explained in a recent featurette that the world they’re introducing “will ultimately become quite important to the future of the MCU.” You can check out the Werewolf By Night featurette for yourself above!

Werewolf By Night takes place on a dark and somber night as a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the foreboding Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader. In a strange and macabre memorial to the leader’s life, the attendees are thrust into a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic—a hunt that will ultimately bring them face to face with a dangerous monster. “We wanted to explore entirely new characters and entirely new sides of the MCU with this unusual, fun, and frightening spin on the supernatural,” Feige said. The project features the talents of Gael García Bernal, Laura Donnelly, Harriet Sansom Harris, Leonardo Nam, Kirk R. Thatcher, and Eugenie Bondurant.

There have been several characters who have fallen under the Werewolf by Night banner over the years, including Jack Russell, a man whose family had been cursed with lycanthropy for centuries. The character was created by Gerry Conway, Mike Ploog, Roy Thomas, and Jean Thomas and first appeared in an issue of Marvel Spotlight back in 1972. The first trailer for Werewolf By Night was released at the D23 Expo, and it looks incredible! If you’re at all a fan of classic 1940s horror, with some Hammer Horror thrown in for good measure, then this looks like it will be right up your alley.

Famed composer Michael Giacchino made his feature directorial debut with Werewolf By Night, which will debut on Disney+ on October 7th. How do you think Werewolf By Night will impact the MCU?
