The Midnight Club, the latest Netflix series from Mike Flanagan – who previously brought us The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass – will be reaching the streaming service on October 7th. Today, a trailer for the show has finally been released, and you can check it out in the embed above!
Drawing inspiration and its title from the 1994 novel by Christopher Pike (buy it HERE), this ten episode series was created by Mike Flanagan and Leah Fong, who also serve as executive producers alongside Trevor Macy, Julia Bicknell, and Christopher Pike. The Midnight Club has the following synopsis:
At a hospice with a mysterious history, the eight members of the Midnight Club meet each night at midnight to tell sinister stories – and to look for signs of the supernatural from the beyond.
The show stars Adia, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, William Chris Sumpter, Aya Furukawa, Annarah Cymone, Iman Benson, and Sauriyan Sapkota as the terminally ill teens. They’re joined in the cast by Zach Gilford, Samantha Sloyan, and Matt Biedel, with Heather Langenkamp on board as a enigmatic doctor.
In addition to the titular book, The Midnight Club‘s writers (Mike Flanagan, Leah Fong, Elan Gale, James Flanagan, and Chinaka Hodge) also drew inspiration from the Pike novels Witch, Gimme a Kiss, Road to Nowhere, The Wicked Heart, and more. Episodes of the show were directed by Flanagan, Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour (Black Box), Axelle Carolyn (Shudder’s Creepshow), Viet Nguyen (Crush the Skull), Morgan Beggs (Once Upon a Time), and Michael Fimognari, who has been the cinematographer on most of Flanagan’s projects.
I watch everything Flanagan makes, so I didn’t need a trailer to convince me to watch The Midnight Club. The trailer is pretty good, though, and I like the use of the song “Possum Kingdom” by The Toadies.
