Two years ago, we heard that Michelle Monaghan (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) had signed on to star in Blood, a new horror film from Session 9 (watch it HERE) director Brad Anderson. Now Deadline reports that Vertical Entertainment has acquired the North American and UK distribution rights to film. They haven’t announced a release date or strategy yet, but we’ll let you know when they do.
Scripted by Will Honley, Blood centers on
Jess (Monaghan), a nurse and mother recently separated from her husband, who moves with her daughter Tyler and young son Owen back into her old farmhouse. Shortly after settling in, Owen’s dog escapes into the woods and returns days later, blood-soaked and rabid. When he attacks and bites Owen, the resulting infection from the bite grows more alarming by the day as Owen’s behavior becomes frightening and deadly. As he spirals deeper into the depths of the illness, Jess discovers a disturbing cure, which makes her question how far she is willing to go to keep her child alive.
Monaghan is joined in the cast by Skeet Ulrich (Scream) as Jess’s estranged husband, Skylar Morgan Jones (Terror in the Woods) as her daughter Tyler, and Finlay Wojtak-Hissong (The Banana Splits Movie) as her son Owen. June B. Wilde (Final Destination 5), Rodrigo Beilfuss (Intersection), and Erik Athavale (Orphan: First Kill) are also in the cast.
A Rhea Films and H2L Media Group production, Blood was financed by Hercules Film Fund. Paris Kassidokostas Latsis and Terry Dougas produced for Hercules, with Gary Levinsohn and Billy Hines producing for H2L Media Group. Hercules’ Jean-Luc De Fanti serves as executive producer alongside Anderson, Steven Sims, Ryan Bartecki, Alexis Varouxakis, Max Work, and Daniel Bekerman.
Vertical’s Peter Jarowey provided the following statement, which gives a hint as to when we can expect to see Blood get released: “Brad Anderson has delivered the quintessential horror film with a cast, led by Monaghan and Ulrich, that delivers on every level. We are excited to be back in business with Hercules Film Fund and Rhea Films and feel this holiday counter-programming will thrill audiences long after we ring in the new year.“
I have been a fan of Anderson’s ever since watching Session 9 back in 2001 and I always make sure to watch his latest movies, so I will be watching Blood for sure. Does this one sound interesting to you? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
