Wendell and Wild teaser: Henry Selick and Jordan Peele team up for spooky, stop-motion fantasy

Henry Selick, the man who gave us The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach, and Coraline, is finally back in action. Selick has teamed up with Jordan Peele to bring us Wendell and Wild, a new stop-motion animated tale that will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Wendell and Wild, which is jam-packed with spooky, fantasy goodness.

Wendell and Wild follows two scheming demon brothers (voiced by Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key) who enlist the aid of 13-year-old Kat Elliot (Lyric Ross) to summon them into the Land of the Living. I can’t believe it’s been over a decade since the release of Coraline, so the return of Henry Selick is very welcome indeed.

In addition to Jordan Peele, Keegan-Michael Key, and Lyric Ross, Wendell and Wild also features the voices of Angela Bassett, James Hong, Tamara Smart, Natalie Martinez, Tantoo Cardinal, Igal Naor, Gary Gatewood, Gabrielle Dennis, David Harewood, Maxine Peake, Ramona Young, Sam Zelaya, Seema Virdi, and Ving Rhames. Henry Selick directed Wendell and Wild and co-wrote the script with Jordan Peele.

“From the delightfully wicked minds of Henry Selick and producer Jordan Peele comes Wendell & Wild, an animated tale about scheming demon brothers Wendell (Keegan-Michael Key) and Wild (Peele), who enlist the aid of Kat Elliot — a tough teen with a load of guilt — to summon them to the Land of the Living,” reads the official synopsis. “But what Kat demands in return leads to a brilliantly bizarre and comedic adventure like no other, an animated fantasy that defies the law of life and death, all told through the handmade artistry of stop motion.” Wendell and Wild will be released in select theaters on October 21st before launching on Netflix on October 28th.
