Stranger Things 101: Millie Bobby Brown off to Purdue

Stranger Things star–and 2022 Emmy snub–Millie Bobby Brown has enrolled in the human services program at Purdue University–located in, yep, Indiana, the same state where the fictional Hawkins is located.

The program is “concerned about today’s individuals and families and want to help them find solutions to challenging circumstances.” They’re talking about social services and family support here, not Demogorgons and Russian guards. According to an interview with Allure, “You learn about the system and how to help young people.”

There’s a modern trend of celebrities going back to further their education, with the likes of Natalie Portman, Julia Stiles and Renée Zellweger all attending college mid-career. What stands out about Brown’s venture is that she’ll be strictly online–so she won’t be caught sleeping in class…unlike James Franco at NYU! This seems to be a reflection on both the trend of virtual courses in higher education and Brown’s busy career. Netflix in particular has her seemingly working constantly, Damsel still in production and set for 2023, along with a sequel to Enola Holmes and The Electric State, a Netflix movie by the Russo Bros co-starring Chris Pratt.

Keen eyes have noted Purdue’s presence on Stranger Things, notably a pretty rad shirt featured in season 3 that the university began selling shortly after due to popular demand.
