Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has updated their release schedule, and in doing so they have pushed back the release of Dune: Part Two, the second half of director Denis Villeneuve‘s two-part adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune. But don’t be too disheartened, Dune fans, the movie is only being delayed one month. It’s moving back from October 20, 2023 to November 17, 2023. Warner Bros. is a fan of this pre-Thanksgiving release window, having previously released Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies, as well as Justice League, at that time. November 17th is quite crowded, though. This release date shift puts Dune: Part Two in direct competition with Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Universal’s Trolls 3, and a Paramount movie directed by John Krasinski and starring Ryan Reynolds. But Dune: Part Two will have the IMAX screens.
Another Warner Bros. release heading to IMAX screens is the Godzilla vs. Kong sequel, which has now been given a release date: March 15, 2024. Details on this one are being kept tightly under wraps. All we know is that Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard is returning to the helm, and his The Guest star Dan Stevens is in the cast. The film is being produced by Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Eric McLeod, Thomas Tull, and Jon Jashni.
Scripted by Villeneuve, Eric Roth, and Jon Spaihts, Dune: Part One starred Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, “a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding” who
must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence – a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential – only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
Chalamet’s co-stars in the second film will include Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Lea Seydoux, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, and Austin Butler.
Villeneuve and Spaihts have written the screenplay for Dune: Part Two. Villeneuve is also producing the film with Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Tanya Lapointe, and Patrick McCormick. Spaihts serves as executive producer alongside Josh Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Kim Herbert, Thomas Tull, Richard P. Rubinstein, and John Harrison. Kevin J. Anderson is creative consultant.
