Venom 3: Tom Hardy and Kelly Marcel are working on the script

Tom Hardy’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home may not have amounted to much, but his days of playing Eddie Brock and his alien symbiote buddy Venom aren’t over yet. A third Venom movie – we’ll go ahead and call it Venom 3 for now – is in development at Sony, and Hardy took to his Instagram account to reveal that he is writing the script with Kelly Marcel.

Hardy and Marcel also wrote Venom: Let There Be Carnage together, although Hardy just got a story credit while Marcel had the sole screenplay credit. Marcel was also one of the writers on the first Venom movie, sharing credit with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.

Details on the plot of Venom 3 have not been revealed, but we can almost certainly expect there to be a lot of goofy comedy and more accent strangeness from Hardy. Fans have been expecting to see Venom cross paths with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man at some point. The ending of Venom: Let There Be Carnage revealed that Hardy’s Eddie Brock and Venom exist in a different universe than Holland’s Spider-Man (he lives in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and they don’t), but they were able to enter that universe. That looked like a set-up for the crossover, but then a credits scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home sent them back to their own universe before they ever had a chance to meet Spidey.

I didn’t feel that either Venom or Venom: Let There Be Carnage lived up to the potential of the concept, and I haven’t seen many people say that they love these movies. They sure rake in the cash, though. The first Venom made over $856 million, and the sequel made over $506 million in the midst of the pandemic.
