According to Brett Goldstein, who serves as a writer on Ted Lasso and stars as Roy Kent, Ted Lasso Season 3 is written as the series’s final bow. “We are writing it like that,” Goldstein told The Sunday Times about the next season of the hit show. “It was planned as three. Spoiler alert – everyone dies.”
Wow! Team Ted Lasso is going full-on Game of Thrones for the final season. I’m just kidding. I doubt that’s the case. I’m sure that Goldstein is just being cute about it. For those who’ve been paying attention, this is not the first time a show star has hinted at the third season being the last. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly in 2021, co-creator and star Jason Sudeikis eluded to the show ending sooner rather than later.
“The story that I know is the one that I wanted to tell, and so that’s the one we’re telling with the help of numerous people in front of and behind the camera, so it’s by no means me typing every key stroke and saying every word,” he said. “It’s nowhere near like that. But the story that’s being told – that three-season arc – is one that I see, know, and understood. I’m glad that they are willing to pay for those three seasons. As far as what happens after that, who knows? I don’t know.”
While this could be the end for Sudeikis’ Ted Lasso, Apple may give the green light to a spinoff based on a character from the mega-popular series. There’s also been talk of the show continuing with new characters. I know plenty of people would tune in for a Roy Kent spinoff or maybe a Rebecca Welton limited series starring the amazing Hannah Waddingham. Either way, I don’t see Apple letting Ted Lasso go without a fight.
What do you think about Ted Lasso Season 3 being the final bow for the series? Is it better to end the show before it has a chance to go sour? Would you watch a spinoff based on any of the show’s existing characters? Let us know in the comments section below.
