Scream 6 will be gorier, with the most aggressive and violent Ghostface yet

Last Updated on June 13, 2022

March 31, 2023 is the theatrical release date for the next installment in the Scream franchise, and filming on this new movie – we’re calling it Scream 6 until we’re told otherwise – is expected to start any day now. The previous film’s cast members Melissa Barrera (who played Samantha Carpenter), Jasmin Savoy Brown (who played Mindy Meeks-Martin), Mason Gooding (who played Mindy’s brother Chad Meeks-Martin), and Jenna Ortega (who played Sam’s sister Tara Carpenter) are all coming back for this one – and while talking to Entertainment Tonight, Ortega said to expect a lot of bloodshed and a very intimidating, violent version of the masked slasher Ghostface for Scream 6.

Ortega said (with thanks to Variety for the transcript),

Ghostface gets a lot more intimidating. I just read part of the script, and it just gets more and more gory. I think that this is probably the most aggressive and violent version of Ghostface we’ve ever seen, which I think will really be fun to shoot.”

The returning Scream (2022) stars are being joined in the cast by Dermot Mulroney (Young Guns) and Hayden Panettiere, reprising the role of Kirby Reed from Scream 4. It doesn’t sound like Neve Campbell will be back as Sidney Prescott, but Courteney Cox liked the script for the new film, so there’s a chance she’ll be back as Gale Weathers.

Scream 6 is coming to us from the same creative team as the recent sequel: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will be directing from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. This one will show us what happens when

the four survivors of the Ghostface killings leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.

Vanderbilt is producing Scream 6 with Paul Neinstein and William Sherak for Project X Entertainment. Original Scream screenwriter Kevin Willamson serves as executive producer alongside Chad Villella, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad, Marianne Maddalena, and Spyglass’s Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre.

The latest Scream is now streaming on the Paramount Plus service, and a 4K UHD digital version can be purchased at THIS LINK.
