We have a whole lot of video game adaptations coming our way in the near future. Amazon is bringing us Fallout and possibly Mass Effect. The Last of Us is set up at HBO, Twisted Metal is happening at Peacock. Ghost of Tsushima, Bioshock, and Borderlands movies are coming down the line. And now Variety is reporting that a TV series adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is in the works at the Netflix streaming service.
The Horizon Zero Dawn video game was developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony for the PlayStation 4 in 2017. The Microsoft Windows release followed in 2020. According to Fandom.com, the story takes place
in the 31st century, in a post-apocalyptic world where colossal machines dominate the land. Human civilization has regressed to tribal societies of hunters and gatherers who survive in immense forests, imposing mountain ranges, and the atmospheric ruins of their ancestors – all while the machines become increasingly powerful. The player controls Aloy, a huntress who uses her speed, cunning, and agility to stay alive and protect herself and others against the force, size, and power of the machines.
The Horizon Zero Dawn adventure has, so far, continued in an expansion called The Frozen Wilds and a sequel called Horizon Forbidden West, which was just released for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 earlier this year.
No one involved with the Netflix series adaptation has made any sort of statement at this time.
This breaking news about the TV series is honestly the first time I have ever heard about Horizon Zero Dawn, since I have only played a handful of games in the last twenty years and don’t follow gaming news. But the idea of a show taking place in a post-apocalyptic world where robot monsters roam the countryside does sound somewhat interesting to me.
Have you played Horizon Zero Dawn? If so, what do you think of the idea of it being turned into a TV show? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
