Stephen King told a very popular story with his novel Salem’s Lot (pick up a copy HERE) – so popular that there’s a new feature film adaptation on the way, despite the fact that the story has already been adapted into two separate TV mini-series. But while filmmakers keep going back to the original story, some genre fans may forget that there was a theatrical follow-up made to the 1979 mini-series version of Salem’s Lot. Directed by Larry Cohen from a screenplay he wrote with James Dixon, the 1987 film A Return to Salem’s Lot has largely been disregarded… but in the new episode of our video series The Black Sheep, we’re giving this movie some long-delayed love. Check it out in the embed above!
A Return to Salem’s Lot has the following synopsis:
In an era of food additives, disease, and infection, human blood can no longer be relied on to support existing vampires. The Salem’s Lot night dwellers have changed their lifestyle as a result – and they want the world to know it. When an anthropologist comes to visit relatives with his son, the close-knit colony see the answer to their prayers. He will stay with them and write an alternative Bible outlining their new legends, rules, and myths for posterity. But changing their image in society will be more difficult than anticipated – especially when he stumbles on a shocking nightmare secret in this sinister lair of the undead.
The film stars Michael Moriarty, Samuel Fuller, Andrew Duggan, Ricky Addison Reed, June Havoc, Evelyn Keyes, James Dixon, Ronee Blakley, and Tara Reid.
