Stranger Things: Duffer Brothers have a “very, very different” idea for a spinoff

Stranger Things, spinoff

It’s been nearly three years since the release of the last season of Stranger Things, but fans will soon be returning to Hawkins once again with the upcoming fourth season. The supernatural series has been a massive hit for Netflix, but we already know it will end with its fifth season. That may not mean that we’ve seen the end of Stranger Things entirely, as series creators Matt and Ross Duffer told Variety that they have an idea for a spinoff series.

We do have an idea for a spinoff that we’re super excited about … but we haven’t told anyone the idea yet, much less written it. We think everyone — including Netflix — will be surprised when they hear the concept, because it’s very, very different.

However, someone has already guessed what the Stranger Things spinoff will be about. “Finn Wolfhard — who is one crazy smart kid — correctly guessed what it was going to be about,” the Duffer Brothers said. “But aside from Finn, no one else knows!

The fourth season of Stranger Things, which will be split up into two volumes, will take place six months after the Battle of Starcourt. “Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier,” reads the official synopsis. “In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.

The first volume of Stranger Things season 4 will debut on Netflix on May 27th, with the second volume dropping on July 1st. You can check out a review of the new season from our own Alex Maidy right here. Any guesses on what the Stranger Things spinoff could be?
