Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers Interview: KiKi Layne

The Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers movie has gotten excellent reviews. And, we’re not talking “good reviews for a Disney Plus” write-ups either. It’s getting legit raves, with many calling it the year’s funniest movie. Our critic Alex Maidy loved the movie (read his review), writing, “I am happy to say that Chip’ n Dale: Rescue Rangers is the best hybrid release since Who Framed Roger Rabbit. With a seriously tongue-in-cheek brand of comedy thanks to Andy Samberg and John Mulaney, this movie is as much fun for kids as it will be for adults who loved the original series.” I pay attention when someone calls this the best live-action/cartoon hybrid since Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

We were lucky enough to sit down early this week with the lone live-action human in the cast, the lovely and talented KiKi Layne, who plays a rookie detective that also happens to be a Chip ‘n Dale mega-fan. Layne told us all about making the movie with two very animated co-stars. You probably recognize her from Netflix’s The Old Guard, where she played Charlize Theron’s protege or Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk. Chip ‘n Dale shows off Layne’s funny side, and it’s a winning performance in a surprisingly hilarious movie. However, we should expect no less from the director behind Hot Rod and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, Akiva Schaffer.
