Interview: Firestarter Director Keith Thomas

It’s been a very long time since the original Firestarter brought the heat. In fact, the 1984 feature film starring David Keith and Drew Barrymore was one of the few Stephen King adaptations that didn’t get the remake treatment. All that changed when Keith Thomas took on the story of a girl who had the power to burn anything she desires. This time around, the film features Zac Efron as the father, and Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the girl with the gifts. If you are hankering for a new King adaptation, you’ll happily find this new flick in theatres as well as available for streaming on Peacock.

Recently, we had the opportunity to chat with some of the talent behind this flick, as well as the filmmaker himself. The director of the indie feature The Vigil was excited to explore this concept. He opened up about working on a Stephen King adaptation, as well as finding inspiration in the source material. Mr. Thomas also discussed bringing on Zac Efron and Ryan Kiera Armstrong for the leading roles and how he approached this this new take. Keith was incredibly kind, and extremely pleasant to chat with, and I look forward to what he is going to try next. If you are looking to bring on the flames, make sure you check out Firestarter in theatres and on Peacock now!
