Morbius Interview: Daniel Espinosa & Adria Arjona

So the reaction to Morbius so far hasn’t been great. I was OK with the movie, giving it a 6/10 in my review, but the reviews at Rotten Tomatoes have been pretty brutal. Nonetheless, business has been booming for the seemingly critic-proof entry into Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Indeed, I had a chance to sit down and talk with most of the cast last week as part of the junket. You can watch my chats with stars Jared Leto and Matt Smith below, but I also had a chance to speak with the director Daniel Espinosa and co-star, Adria Arjona.

Espinosa has gone on record saying he’s a massive comic book geek, and here he told me that doing a movie in the Marvel universe was a dream come true. He also talks a bit about some of the horror influences he peppered into the film, and Espinosa seemed like a genuinely gracious guy who’s very excited about dipping his toe into the genre.

For the interview, he was paired with Adria Arjona, who plays Dr. Martine Bancroft, Morbius’s fellow scientist and love interest. She attempts to give the movie a little heart, and Arjona mentioned having an unusual influence for the part – none other than Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Check out the interviews, and later today, we’ll post a spoiler-heavy “What Did You Think of Morbius” article so everyone can share their opinions, be they good, bad or downright ugly!
