On September 13th, Welbeck Publishing is bringing us Godzilla: The Ultimate Illustrated Guide, a hardcover book that has the official backing of Toho Co., the Japanese film studio that Godzilla calls home. This guide was written by Graham Skipper, who genre fans may know from his acting roles in projects like Almost Human, Tales of Halloween, The Mind’s Eye, Dementia, Carnage Park, The Devil’s Dolls, Beyond the Gates, Psychopaths, Downrange, Bad Apples, Dementia: Part II, All the Creatures Were Stirring, Bliss, Automation, VFW, and more. Skipper also wrote and directed the films Space Clown and Sequence Break.
Godzilla: The Ultimate Illustrated Guide has a page count of 256. Copies can be pre-ordered at THIS LINK.
Here’s the description of Godzilla: The Ultimate Illustrated Guide:
Known as the ‘King of the Monsters’, Godzilla is one of the most famous creatures the cinema has ever known.Godzilla: The Ultimate Illustrated Guide unites fascinating information and stunning imagery from more than 60 years of movie mayhem to show off the Earth’s most enduring monster as never before.
This book is the ultimate illustrated reference work to all things Godzilla, from the early days in black and white in Japan to the biggest blockbusters of the 21st century. Never before has a work united the full gamut of Godzilla incarnations. Facts and figures, actors and locations, co-starring monsters and plenty of superb illustrated material add up to make this a rampaging beast of a book!
Skipper previously collaborated with Toho on Godzilla Tales, a series of comedy shorts that can be viewed on the official Godzilla YouTube channel. The author took to social media to say that he was “beyond honored to be asked to author Toho’s official Illustrated Guide to the Godzilla franchise! It’s fully comprehensive, covering every film, TV show, comic… all of it. And it includes never before seen photos from Toho’s private archive! A true dream job.”
I only knew Skipper as an actor, so I was very surprised to see that he was the writer of this book. That is a very cool job to land, and I’m interested to see how Godzilla: The Ultimate Illustrated Guide has turned out. The cover of the book can be seen below (and I know some fans are going to be displeased that the cover image is from Shin Godzilla instead of being a shot of classic Godzilla), and there are some sample pages on display on its Amazon page.
